Comments From the Napa Strategic Plan Questionaire regarding tourism.
- Everyone wants to live in a nice well taken care of neighborhood. It's not just about the tourists
- Napa focus should be on the wine and tourist industry
- Tourism is out of control
- The danger of a mass tourism economy overwhelming a real life for residents.
- Stop focusing on tourism and start repairing the damage that has been done in this community.
- the industry that brings tourism, our primary economic source
- The focus of the economic vitality of the county seems to be biased towards agriculture/viticulture/tourism.
- RESIDENTS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN TOURISTS
- Control tourism; do not let it control the County or the City.
- I think napa is become less compassionate for the underprivileged people and more about tourism.
- Stabilize and preserve what we have, rather than keep expanding wine industry, vineyards, hotels, tourism.
- I would to see venues like the fairgrounds, parks, used for more local programs, not to attract more tourists but just for us sometimes.
- tourists more important than locals
- improving quality of life for actual Napa residents, not just for tourists.
- is cold and appeals only to the wealthy tourist.
- Balancing the tourism and the activities they come to participate in with the needs/lives of the residents
- Take care if your citizens first, then tourist.
- overdevelopment of vineyards and wineries too much tourism
- Amount of Tourists visiting the county.
- Tourism is more important than residents now
- It's all about the tourists. Downtown Napa has been developed for tourists and residents have no reason to there anymore.
- Napa no longer cares about the people who already live here, but instead focuses on how to attract more tourists at the expense of its residents.
- It seems that the county and city fathers are dedicated to increasing tourists to our already strapped valley
- Interests and needs of locals ahead of tourism.
- The balance of tourism development vs. the need for housing of needed workforce.
- It would be nice if downtown Napa was geared for locals and not tourists.
- It would be nice if the City of Napa locals before tourists.
- And we do NOT need any additional tourists or traffic,
- The balance of community and individuals' quality of life with the profit and dominance of the business and tourist drive for success
- Tourism needs to be balanced so that the community is not lost in the shuffle
- The downtown cannot be filled with hotels and restaurants that cannot be sustained should tourism die down
- Growth of tourism, including hotels and restaurants, larger wineries and 'tasting venues'appears to lack any oversight
- Too many commuters and tourists, too many hotels!!!!!
- Napa County is too dependent upon the wine/tourism industry.
- STOP BURDENING US WITH YOU CATERING TO TOURISM
- Loss of habitat and open space due to vineyard conversion and tourism development.
- Rethink tourism-dominated development and growth.
- free/inexpensive transportation up/down valley for locals and tourists to reduce congestion
- Support for LGBTQ Pride month for locals & tourists
- I also think that we need more tourist accommodations away from the valley floor
- Too much development, too many tourists, horrible traffic and terrible road conditions.
- Controlling the growth of tourism and hotels.
- - focus on residents, not tourists.
- Over-development -- too many new wineries, too many tourists and resulting traffic
- Too little affordable housing which is a major contributor to traffic (in addition to tourists).
- Our business is tourism.
- More focus on the community, actual Napa residents, not tourists.
- I am somewhat tired of our efforts going into tourism. And we are not tourists.
- Clogging roads with drug tourists on bikes they can barely ride
- Parking for residents not just tourists.
- Emphasis on Tourism is forcing many locals to shop and dine in other communities.
- Too much tourism, too many hotels,
- Keep an eye on special interests ... that place tourists before residents.
- need to cater to locals not just tourist
- too much reliance on revenue from tourism
- A focus and priority on the community who lives here, specifically the community of color, rather than the tourist/business industry.
- Our town is slowly disappearing and being replaced by super wealthy and tourists.
- Also hotels have to provide shuttles for tourism and housing for workers.
- Seems last few decades to focus on the very wealthy n rich adult Tourists.
- focus on those who choose to live here-- its not just about catering to the tourists
- Please place the welfare of residents above that of tourists.
- Sometimes it seems that tourism, wealth and wine are valued more than community members.
- balance between tourism and quality of life for those of us who live here.
- Wake up Napa...even tourist articles recommend Sonoma, Petaluma, for good common sense vibes
- Tourism is causing a decline in our quality of life.
- a grip on traffic and STOP approving hotel/tourist development.
- excessive reliance on tourism and a wine industry/vacation focus.
- tourism is way out of hand,
- Stop catering to the tourists! Let's use their tax money to do some things for the locals.
- It feels like all the choices are being made to support tourism, but this does little to help many residents.
- It doesn't seem that those tourism dollars support the residents.
- more emphasis on improving life for the people living here rather than prioritizing the tourists.
- Napa is losing its community feel and is becoming a tourist city.
- too much attention to the tourists and their impact on regular residents
- this will indeed lessen the tourism of desirable people coming to the Napa Valley for luxury travel and fine wines.
- If it's going to be all about tourism, not sure I want to live here for the rest of my life
- Tourist-centered decisions, not local-serving or long-range-benefit decisions.
- Cut back on tourism!
- Keep some semblance of being a rural community rather than overwhelming focus on upscale tourism.
- areas are going to be flooded with tourists and local people are going to be contending with a great deal of congestion everywhere!
- tourism is a huge factor affecting the quality of life in this valley
- The increase in hotels and tourism is ruining the County.
- corporate wineries and the tourist industry are catered to while small businesses and people who have lived here for years aren't treated as important parts of the community.
- climate change and lowered water tables will force us to move beyond the niche tourist destination.
- small town USA that is being sold out to tourism
- Demand workforce housing or higher taxes for housing from industries, agriculture and tourist hotels in the County.
- we need to diversify our business from tourism/wine.
- enforce the rules on the tourism/wine industry
- Vineyards and tourism taking over
- new resort at Stanley Lane and all the giant development in Shellville. It will be a disaster for tourism.
- The status of agriculture over all other industries (including tourism)
- Too much emphasis on tourism and not enough on the quality of life for the residents.
- Tourism is great- but not at the expense of people who live here and support the economy year round
- Maintaining the county
- We need to rein in tourism to keep our community diverse and vibrant. for residents not just wealthy tourists
- Emphasize residents, NOT tourists.
- More emphasis on the local residents as compared to tourists
- diversity of businesses that are not just dedicated to serving the tourist and the wine industry
- Tourism should be addressed as both an opportunity and a growing problem. We need quality not quantity of visitors to our Valley.
- control of tourism and affordable housing has been much less successful.
- our streets are abhorrent for how much money is made by tourism.
- I could easily earn income by renting to tourists
- restrictions that place undue burdens on wineries and discourage tourism are not welcome.
- so we are not a mono-culture dependent on wine, food, tourism, the hospitality business.
- How many officers vs residents? How many to cover tourism?
- too many important decisions are being made with the tourist industry in mind
- Downtown Napa is becoming a tourist trap
- Napa has become home to the tourists
- Smaller communities without the huge tourism industry
- too much emphasis on tourists and tourism
- work with the Tourism related businesses
- harder to park, especially in pubic area
- downturn in the economy or natural disaster that affects tourism, a downtown that only relies on tourism will suffers where tourists frequent
- How can we continue to promote Napa as a tourist town if we can't manage local issues?
- Drawing talent from Bay Area to diversify tourism beyond Wine.
- -improving wages/affordable housing vs. drawing businesses in the tourist/hospitality industry.
- our county has changed from an agricultural economy into a tourist economy
- recognize long term tourism economy destroys a community
- living wages for those who support the wine/tourism/hospitality industries
- Critical role and importance of agriculture and tourism.
- focus on tourism can be detrimental to local small businesses such as restaurants
- Balance between agriculture and tourism. We're losing our small-town lifestyle.
- affordable housing, not tourism and hotels to be main priority for growth in Napa
- main issue facing Napa County is too much reliance on tourism
- Napa isn't for locals anymore, it is an expensive playground for tourists
- Tourism must be sustainable w/ benefits accruing to residents as well as business
- Wineries are venturing out from core agricultural viticultural business drawing in more tourists/traffic
- We need the services of the Napa population to exist. Most everything now is tourist prioritized.
- Half the downtown should be for tourists and half for the inhabitants of Napa.
- moratorium on winery expansions and development in order to take stock of how much more tourism development Napa can or cannot stand
- cannot support the wine industry, or tourism, without providing affordable housing
- Transformation of our agricultural economy into a tourist economy at the expense of the citizens
- retail development versus hospitality/tourism
- THIS VALLEY IS ALL ABOUT THE TOURISTS! THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO CONSIDERATION TO THE RESIDENTS!
- Napa airport runway should be enlarged to accommodate bigger planes to transport the increasing population and promote more tourism to the area.
- we are focusing on tourism at the expense of why people come to Napa
- Start paying attention to the needs of the citizens instead of tourism
- The consideration of locals over tourists in all areas
- This insane growth of industries catering to tourists MUST stop
- A precise blueprint setting limits on growth Limit tourism and reverse events and winery visitations as part of agriculture
